MOTORCYCLE Q & A

2002 kawasaki ninja zx6r bogs at higher rpm's sometimes?

Question: 2002 kawasaki ninja zx6r bogs at higher rpm's sometimes?

So I was having trouble with my bike, it was bogging at about 5k and higher when I rode(but could easily rev to redline when I just revved it) so I took out the carbs and cleaned them. I put them back and it's a little better now. It just bogs sometimes. I went full throttle in 1st and it went good until about 6k and then bogged for a few seconds and then rode strong again. Then later I put it in second and gunned it from about 3k to 13k and it was fast and smooth. I don't get why it's acting differently. Also if i'm going like 30 and I press the clutch and rev to down shift, it revs good instantly. But if I'm going 50 or 60 and I try to do a quick rev, it takes a couple quick twists to get the motor to rev. I just don't get it. All I have is a D &D exhaust. my get sizes are 155 and 157.5. I thought I was running a little lean but my buddy said that each time I gun it, there's a little bit of black smoke, which indicates a rich mixture. Can a rich mixture cause these symptoms?

Best way to tell if its running rich or lean is to do an engine chop test & look at the plugs.... is the tank clean & do you have a clean fuel filter fitted?? no point in cleaning carbies if your just sucking more crud into them.. intermittent faults can be hard to fix... just keep doing one thing at a time until it comes good.. have the carbies been SYNCED/ BALANCED since you had them apart & cleaned them
