Question: Why is it that most of the used bikes for sale are hd's, but hd is #2 in new bike sales?

In the U.S. Honda is the leader of new bike sales, HD is #2 Then why is it every used motorcycle for sale adds are mostly used HD's for sale? Then why are there few used Honda Motorcycles for sale. Answers: "A " There are more HD's for sale because the economy is bad and people can't afford the payment on a $20K motorcycle "B " HD Owners want to trade in their old HD for a new HD but the dealer will not give them a fair trade in price "C " The current HD they own is outta warranty and it has engine problems that are too expensive to fix, or you can afford to have it fixed "D " After owning a HD you admit you made a mistake buying it, you wanta sale it to have the money to buy a new Honda Motorcycle

Honda includes dirt bikes, small cc bikes, sport bikes, etc. in their motorcycle sales along with cruisers and touring bikes. Harley only offers touring and cruisers. That and you don't see many Harleys in the scrap yard.

I don't know what you are seeing, around here there are more 'other' bikes for sale... but i do notice that in the expensive seciton, there are more HD's for sale... mostly b/ c people can't really afford a 20K HD. you can suck it up on a 5k honda though.

I know the local classsifieds around here are loaded everyday with HD 's for sale. Many more HD'S for sale than any other bike on a daily basis. I believe the answers A & B are probably the reason why.

Sorry about your income! Sounds to me that you have only praise for japcrap and despise American made iron. There are people that buy a recreational vehicle and realize they cant afford it once the economy dumps. But it better to sell a quality bike with the hopes of someone riding it as oppossed to allowing a cheap pos to sit and rot in the corner of the garage. Harleys are more of an investment than other brands for a variety of reasons. If honda says they are the largest seller of everthing from bikes to weed whackers, so be it. The bikes the make will never hold thier value like a Harley.

Honda is #1 only because that includes everything as Bryon said. When it comes to heavyweight bikes (as in displacement, not weight), Harley is and has been #1 for many, many years. There may be some merit to your "A " answer, but that will apply to all yuppie bikes (big cruisers) of all brands. You know, the guys that buy an expensive status symbol bike and ride it only on pleasant weekends when they happen to feel like it and the stock market is up. When the market is down, they're too depressed to ride and go hide in an expensive bottle of wine at the spa. I know you put considerable intellectual resources into coming up with your possible answers, but even with all your "brain strain " you missed the real answer, that being there's more road worthy Harleys around than other brands, period. If you don't believe me, stroll through a bike salvage yard and see how many Harleys are junked or being parted out. You'll see very few and it's because people hang on to even the less than desirable AMF models. Whether you're talking about cars, bikes or dollar bills, the more there are in circulation, the more you'll see for sale, in parking lots, on the road or in the change you get back when buying a Big Mac.

I'll give you correct for a new way to get your HD bashing in, but other than that, you are just another jealous little person. BTW, Honda isn't No.1 in heavy motorcycle sales. Look for a better job or ask Daddy for a loan.
